6 p.m. April 24 Jewish-Filipino Dinner at Eastern Market

From 1937-41, about 1,200 European Jews fleeing the Nazis found an unlikely new home: the Philippines. This little-known chapter of World War II history will be recognized though a special pop-up collaborative dinner between Sarap and Eastern Market chef Aaron Egan at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24 at Eastern Market Shed 5. It's also a way to highlight how food can bring cultures together and be a catalyst for conversation.

We imagined what life would be like for a Jewish refugee newly arrived in the Philippines. What dishes of home can I make using what's available? That was the inspiration for this menu.
